The car was very loose during qualifying, mid-corner and exit grip were non existant and no quick changes improved anything.     same problem on mine . Driveshaft was replaced then realised it was the problem in the differential not the drive shaft itself. Loose differential

      On this particular engine, no idea. On an 3.0, I've never seen more than (a true) 270-275hp on an M50 inlet/throttle body (Schrick 270's). Internet figures can be anything you want, but I'm talking about other cars on the same dyno as in this video. I would hazard a guess I may have done 280-285hp on a stock inlet with this engine build. General rule of thumb is ITBs usually net you 25-30hp in numbers. However it's not about the peak numbers ITBs give you, they have a much wider power/torque band and improve the throttle response by ten fold.

      Not really, however they are: 1. At the time, cheap... 2. Better spec (journal roundness) than the OE BMW rod... 3. Another thing to not think about when spinning the M54 crank to higher RPM...

Pay attention to and understand in beforehand how the new VVT need to be put in the exact same rotation position on the timing belt as the old one (that is why it is called a TIMING belt).

    Awesome build man! Did u consider to use dual vanos head from M52/M54 for the same build? Is it possible? Im not sure because all the info I found was that there were M52 head available with dual vanos in europe, but I do not know if it is the same casting.

      You would have to start with a TU, and you would not be able to use the iron block. The position of coolant and oil passages are different. There is no benefit for a track application, especially when you move to aftermarket camshafts. The exhaust VANOS is beneficial for low down torque and emissions control mainly, two things I don't need 👍

I was wondering because I want to build car for occasional track use but that is still fun to drive on roads and to have as flat torque curve as possible. I wondered why noone did this in all these years. So I guess the easiest option would to machine NV head or M52 head. Anyway, impressive results and knowledge! GL with racing :)

    What is the best and easiest way to bring compression up on the m54b30? I was looking for anything from 12 to 13 compression ratio. Could this be done simply by getting high compression pistons?

      You would have to custom spec some pistons from Wiseco/Wossner. I purchased off the shelf 11.5:1 Wiseco pistons and then took 1mm off the block surface to increase compression to 12.5:1. This is with a 1.75mm headgasket. It was the maximum I wanted to remove to avoid piston/head contact. The valve releifs are large enough to accomodate this even with large Catcams.

      Unfortunately the pictures went a long while ago. I kept another thread up to date for a while on ClioSport but then lost the ability to reply to that as I'm not a 'paid' member of the forum. I tend to just post bits on Instagram every now and again whenever something significant changes now. Its a CAE shifter 👍

      I could remove the passenger seat and frame, and it will be under that... but I have no need to. There isn't much else to save, it already has some lightweight panels. You could use lighter wheels, or run less fuel load, but it's only being used for fun now really.

    Do You know your valve spring pressure ? Seat pressure and Max lift pressure with the springs from cat cams ?       Its a combination of both. M54B30 pistons are 28.32mm and the Wiseco are 30.32mm with a 7.3cc dome.

      It is easy to get used to. The stock one is terrible for performance driving - there is no real brake feel with assisted brakes, and it is offset to the seating position.

      Yes, along with ATI SuperDamper. Its still possible to have oil pump issues with the VAC shaft/kit due to B30 crank harmonics if your vibration damper isn't up to the job. It depends how often you want to use all the RPM range - in my case, its all the time!

      f0xy I do have the shaft upgrade already but no damper, but I am only running a b28 crank but was thinking of over boring to 86/87 mill to get the displacement but still mabey only spinning it to 7500 (hyro lifters) but probably no need to even spin it that hard for the twice a year I’d end up doing a a track day!

      @@billytremoloband7456 B28 is less of an issue as the engine is square, 84x84mm, stick with it and it has the most balance for RPM. Change either stroke, or bore, and you move away from the balance the stock harmonic balancer was designed for. The amount of days/time spent at RPM is a bit of a chance really, it could happen at any point. One of our group ran the VAC kit for only a few track days, with only a 7000rpm limit (B30), and has had the pump sprocket fail on two different occasions. Its the harmonics that kill these things.

      f0xy Not that we we’re sitting my one at 7300 for two long but the engine has survived a good half dozen Trackday’s with double driving (roughly 160miles per track day so mabey you are onto something about the whole square engine/standard harmonic balancer holding together!

      Bald AR-1s on the rear, worn out, narrower DZ03 on the front. Shortage of tyres everywhere at the moment. We're not after perfection, we do it for fun. In hindsight though, my quickest lap throughout this day was 3 seconds lower than this car has every done there, even when I raced there 👍
